Signs Your BFT Access Control Installation Is Failing

• Keypad requires multiple presses or only responds to force. The membrane on BFT’s weather-exposed keypads hardens in Riverside’s summer UV, and the carbon contact underneath cracks. If you have to press the “3” twice to get one digit, the keypad membrane is done.
• Card reader works in the morning but not the afternoon. Heat expansion on the reader’s internal connections causes intermittent contact that cools back down overnight. DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things before calling. Verify that the panel has power and that the breaker hasn’t tripped. Look for a visible blown fuse on the board. If you have a multimeter and know how to use it, checking for 24V at the keypad terminals is reasonable. What you should not do is open a live panel and start swapping wires. BFT panels carry line voltage on one side of the board, and a short across the wrong terminals can destroy the panel and damage the gate controller it’s wired to. That same mistake can also leave your gate in a fail-open state overnight, which defeats the purpose of having access control at all.
