BFT Welding & Fabrication: The Riverside Owner’s Guide

We stock and install BFT-compatible welding and fabrication parts across Riverside, with most bracket, hinge, and gate frame repairs running between $240 and $680 installed. Same-day service is available when we have the part on the truck, which covers most BFT swing-arm and slide-gate mounting hardware. What usually brings a Riverside owner to this page is a gate that’s started sagging, a cracked weld at the arm bracket, or a post that’s shifted and thrown the whole geometry off. One bad weld at the attachment point is enough to bend a $400 actuator arm, and we’d rather catch it before that happens.

Which BFT Models This Applies To

This page covers welding and fabrication work on most BFT swing and slide gate systems found on Riverside properties, including the Deimos, Rigel, Phobos, and Sub series operators. The part that fails is rarely the motor itself. It’s the steel around the motor. The hinge weld, the arm bracket, the post plate, the slide-gate track supports. Those components are fabricated steel, and they take the structural load every time the gate moves.

There are two ways we identify the right part before touching a torch. If the bracket or hinge is a BFT factory piece, it’ll have a stamp or a number etched near the mounting holes. We photograph that. If it’s a custom-fabricated bracket from the original install, we measure the plate thickness, bolt spacing, and arm geometry, then match it. Riverside has a lot of older hillside properties, particularly in Canyon Crest and Alessandro Heights, where custom steelwork was common on driveway gates. On those, we sometimes fabricate a replacement bracket on site from the same stock thickness rather than forcing a universal fit. For BFT specifically, we lean OEM on anything involving the actuator mounting geometry. A universal aftermarket bracket can work, but if the pivot points are off by even a quarter inch, the motor works harder and the limit switches drift. Adrian Vance has seen too many BFT arms with a fresh bend right at the weld because someone saved forty dollars on a bracket that didn’t line up.

Signs Your BFT Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

Signs Your BFT Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
  • The gate sags or drags at the free end. This almost always points to a hinge weld that’s stretching or cracking. The motor keeps pushing, but the gate leaf is now pulling down on the welds every cycle.
  • A visible crack runs through the arm bracket or the post plate. This is the one we see most on BFT swing systems. The weld itself is usually fine, but the heat-affected zone right next to it develops a hairline crack. Riverside’s summer heat and the dry air accelerate it, because metal expands and contracts more sharply across a big day-to-night temperature swing.
  • The gate shudders or jerks mid-travel instead of moving smoothly. A cracked weld lets the hinge or bracket flex under load. The actuator compensates, then the crack opens slightly, and the motion gets choppy.
  • You hear a metallic pop or creak when the gate starts or stops. Creaking is normal on old hinges. A pop is not. A pop means something shifted that shouldn’t move at all.
  • The gate is scratched or grooved where the leaf meets the post or the ground. That’s the result of a hinge that’s already deflected. The leaf is no longer swinging on its original arc.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Riverside, you can expect BFT welding and fabrication work to land in these ranges:

  • Single hinge weld repair: $120-$220
  • Arm bracket fabrication and install: $240-$480
  • Post plate replacement with welding: $300-$680
  • Full gate frame weld repair (multiple points): $450-$1,200

The range depends on material thickness, access, and whether we’re repairing a factory part or fabricating a custom piece to match the original. Every quote includes the welding work, the part, grinding and finishing, and a photo record of the finished welds before we leave. That’s the Haven Standard: a written price before the torch comes off the truck, and documented evidence of the work when it’s done. Welding is covered under our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If a weld fails within a year because of our work, we make it right. No fee, no argument.

Here’s the honest split. You can safely check for visible cracks, measure the gap between the gate and post, and look for rust bleeding through the paint at the weld joints. That’s diagnosis. What most Riverside owners shouldn’t do is attempt a structural weld repair themselves. Welding on a gate that’s under load, or on a post that’s set in concrete, requires knowing the metal grade, the right filler, and how to manage heat distortion. A bad weld on a BFT arm bracket can fail suddenly, and a swinging gate leaf carries enough force to hurt someone. It’s not like fixing a lawn mower handle. If you’re in doubt, call (951) 934-7330 and we’ll put eyes on it. A second opinion is free, and we’ll tell you if it’s actually a weld problem or something simpler.
