Keypad and intercom repair sits on the safe side of gate work, but it’s not entirely risk-free: you’re working with low-voltage wiring around a metal call box, and the gate operator itself can still move a gate thousands of pounds heavy. If you want to check something before calling, visually inspect the keypad for swollen or punctured button membranes, and look inside the housing for ant trails or corrosion on the terminal strip.
Where DIY goes wrong on Elite specifically is the membrane swap: the face peels off cleanly on newer units, but on older units the old adhesive takes the printed circuit traces with it, and suddenly a $220 repair becomes a $520 board replacement.
