For aftermarket equivalents on Elite hardware, we use cold-rolled steel plate of the same or greater gauge, never thinner, and we match the hole pattern exactly. Signs Your Elite Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

• The gate sags and scrapes the driveway on the latch side. This usually means the top hinge weld or the frame corner weld has started to separate. The gate’s own weight is pulling the weld apart a little more every cycle.
• You can see a hairline crack in the paint or powder coat at a joint. The crack in the coating follows the crack in the metal underneath. Powder coat doesn’t crack on its own; the steel moved first.
• The opener runs but the gate shudders or jerks mid-travel. A loose or broken bracket allows the arm to flex before it moves the gate, so the motion you see is the slack being taken up.
• The gate slams harder than it used to or bounces at the closed position. When a lower frame weld fails, the gate’s center of gravity shifts and the closer doesn’t stop it the way it should.
• The operator mounting plate has visible gaps or the bolts keep loosening. Vibration from a compromised weld will back bolts out in a matter of weeks, no matter how many times they’re tightened.

DIY or Call Us?

If you can safely operate the gate’s manual release and want to confirm which bracket or joint is failing, go ahead and look. But we don’t recommend DIY welding on a gate that stays on its hinges, and here’s why: the gate’s weight is still sitting on the broken joint while you’re trying to weld it, the heat draws the break open, and the resulting weld is weaker than the original, not stronger. You also risk warping the gate leaf or burning through thinner tube steel. High-temperature work near powder coat and galvanized finishes releases fumes you don’t want to breathe without proper ventilation and a respirator.
