Elite Access Control Installation: The Riverside Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Elite-compatible access control parts across Riverside, and most keypad, receiver, and control-board replacements run between $350 and $900 installed, depending on the model and what failed. We carry the common Elite parts on the truck, so in many cases we can complete the swap the same day we diagnose it. The way it usually goes: the keypad stops accepting the code, the remote works only from ten feet away, or the gate starts opening on its own at 2 a.m. because a relay on the control board gave up.

If you have an Elite gate motor on your Riverside property and the access side of things just stopped behaving, this page is the exact walkthrough of what we find, what we replace, and what it costs. We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with Elite, which means we fix what’s there instead of steering you toward a new motor.

Which Elite Models This Applies To

Elite’s residential line runs mostly through the SL-series slide gate operators and the CSW-series swing gate models: SL-3000, SL-1000, CSW-200, CSW-100, and the older MiMo and Classic series still show up regularly in Riverside’s established neighborhoods. The access control side of these systems is the part most likely to be added or replaced: the keypad, the radio receiver, the loop detector, the photo eyes, or the control board itself.

One compatibility gotcha that matters with Elite specifically: older SL-2000 boards use a different harness and relay layout than the current SL-3000 generation, so a board swapped without checking the revision number will leave you with a gate that moves but won’t respond to any input. We read the control board’s revision number before quoting, every time. When the original Elite keypad fails, we typically recommend an OEM replacement if the gate is less than five years old and the harness is intact. For older units where the harness has been spliced once already, a quality aftermarket keypad with a sealed stainless face saves money, but it has to be a Wiegand-output unit or it won’t talk to Elite’s input wiring. That spec is the difference between a clean install and a callback.

The other Riverside-specific reality: our summer heat does a number on plastic keypad housings and sun-exposed receiver antennas. A keypad face that’s been cooking on a west-facing pillar for six summers will crack and let moisture into the circuit board, even if the buttons still click. We see it regularly in the Canyon Crest and Alessandro Heights areas, where gates catch full afternoon sun.

Signs Your Elite Access Control Installation Is Failing

Signs Your Elite Access Control Installation Is Failing
  • Keypad accepts some codes but not others. This usually means one of the internal relays or a programming EPROM is starting to go, not that you forgot the code. The master code still works because it’s stored differently than user codes.
  • Remote range drops to a few feet. On Elite systems this is most often the receiver’s antenna cable or a failing receiver module. If it also happens with a fresh battery in the remote, the receiver is degrading.
  • Gate opens or closes without anyone pressing anything. A stuck relay on the control board, a shorted loop detector, or a failing keypad sending phantom signals. This one gets fixed the same day, because a gate with a mind of its own is a safety problem for anyone near it.
  • The gate only responds after repeated button presses. Worn keypad contacts or a dying receiver. The contact points on a 7-year-old membrane keypad oxidize and become intermittent before they fail completely.
  • You hear a click but nothing moves. The access control side is sending the signal; the operator’s motor capacitor or start relay isn’t executing it. This could be the board, or it could be the motor itself, and the way to tell is measuring at the relay output terminals.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Riverside, Elite access control installation typically runs:

Part Installed Price Range
Keypad replacement (OEM or quality aftermarket) $280-$520
Radio receiver replacement $180-$380
Loop detector replacement $220-$400
Photo eye set (safety beam pair) $250-$450
Control board replacement $450-$900

The range comes down to three things: which Elite model you have, whether the existing wiring harness is reusable, and whether we need to run new low-voltage conduit. Every price we quote is written before work starts, with the part number listed on the estimate. If we open the panel and find something the estimate didn’t cover, we stop and call you with the number before we touch it. That’s how Adrian Vance has run every Riverside job since 2014, and it’s written into our work as Haven Standard Clause 1: the price is in your hand before the tool is in ours. Labor and part warranty is included in every quote.

The access control side of an Elite gate system runs on low voltage, which makes it less dangerous than the motor and capacitor side, but a mis-wired control board input can leave the gate failing open, failing closed, or ignoring its safety eyes. A gate that doesn’t stop when something crosses its path is a liability and a real hazard, especially with kids or dogs in the yard. If you’re replacing a keypad face, checking wire connections, or using a multimeter to test a photo-eye circuit, those are reasonable owner-level tasks if you’re comfortable with them. When it gets to board replacement or re-terminating the input wiring, we recommend a trained tech, because the difference between a working gate and a dangerous one is often one misplaced conductor.
