- The motor hums but the gate stays still. This is the classic stripped gear symptom. The internal plastic drive gear, which Ghost Controls uses to keep cost down, shears under load. The motor is spinning; the output shaft is not.
- The gate opens but won’t close fully, or reverses at odd points. The limit-sensing circuit inside the arm is failing. On Ghost Controls arms, this is typically a worn internal potentiometer or a cracked sensor board, not an external limit switch you can adjust from outside.
- Erratic movement with a charged battery. If you’ve confirmed the battery reads 12.4V or better and the gate still jerks or stutters, the arm’s internal motor brushes are worn. This is the second most common failure we see in Riverside, especially on gates that cycle more than 30 times a day.
- Visible corrosion at the clevis pin or mounting flange. Riverside’s hard water and summer heat accelerate rust on the steel bracket hardware. If the arm is wobbling on the mount, the pin and bushing are worn, and running the gate in that condition damages the arm internals.
