Linear Welding & Fabrication: The Riverside Owner’s Guide
We stock, weld, and install Linear-compatible gate hardware in Riverside, with most welding and fabrication jobs on Linear operators running between $240 and $680 installed. In most cases we can have a technician out same day or next morning when a weld has failed and the gate is no longer secure. What owners usually notice first is a gate that swings six inches past its stop, or a mounting plate that’s cracked through at the bolt holes, or an operator arm that’s twisted loose from its bracket after years of Riverside heat cycling.
If you’re standing in your driveway looking at a Linear operator that’s partially detached from its post, or a hinge that’s blown out, the part itself rarely fails in isolation. Almost every welding call we run in Riverside starts with a bracket, a hinge leaf, or an arm tab that fatigue-cracked under load. The good news is that most of it is repairable without replacing the operator, and we’ll tell you if it isn’t.
Which Linear Models This Applies To
This applies to the full range of Linear swing and slide gate operators, including the LRA series for residential slide gates, the swing-arm models like the Linear APeX and older LS series, and the commercial linear-ram operators that show up on larger Riverside properties. The welding and fabrication needs differ by model. Slide-gate operators put lateral stress on the rack brackets and the base plate. Swing operators concentrate wear at the arm pivot, the post bracket, and the hinge points on the gate itself.
Here’s what matters for identification: the nameplate on the operator will give you the model and serial, and the bracket or hinge that failed will usually have a part number stamped into it if it’s factory Linear hardware. Photograph both before you call us. It saves a trip. If the part is no longer legible, our technicians carry a caliper and a few reference measurements for common Linear mounting patterns, so we can usually tell you on the phone whether it’s a stock bracket or something we’ll fabricate on site.
One more thing about OEM versus aftermarket: Linear factory brackets are built to spec, but some of the older LS-series brackets were undersized for the weight of gates Riverside homeowners hung on them. When we fabricate a replacement bracket, we typically increase the plate thickness one gauge over factory spec and add a gusset at the weld line. It costs a little more in labor and looks better than the part that just failed.
Signs Your Linear Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

- Cracked post bracket at the operator mount. The weld or the plate itself has fatigued. You’ll see a dark fissure line running from a bolt hole toward the edge of the plate. This is the most common failure on Riverside swing gates, especially on hillside drives where the gate fights gravity every cycle.
- Gate overshoots the closed or open stop. The arm tab or bracket has worked loose and the operator is pushing past its limit. That means the set screw or through-bolt is now carrying load it wasn’t designed for, and the tab is ovaling out the hole.
- Operator motor runs but the gate barely moves. The arm has sheared its retaining pin or the weld at the pivot has failed. You’ll hear the motor strain and you may smell the belt slipping. Shut it down and call us, because running it this way burns out the gear train.
- Visible gap between the operator and its mounting plate. The anchor bolts have pulled through or the plate has rust-jacked off the post. In Riverside’s dry heat this is less about rust and more about cyclic fatigue in the plate itself.
- Gate sags at the hinge side and drags on the ground. A hinge weld or hinge leaf has cracked and the gate leaf is rotating on one remaining point. The longer it runs like that, the more damage it does to the other hinge and to the operator’s gearbox.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Expect to pay between $240 and $680 installed for most Linear welding and fabrication work in Riverside. A straightforward bracket re-weld or reinforcement runs $240 to $360. Fabricating a new post bracket with a thicker plate and gusset runs $340 to $520. Re-hanging a gate that’s blown both hinge welds and aligning the operator arm runs $480 to $680, depending on gate weight and access.
Here’s how the pricing works, and it’s the same on every job we run: we write the price down before any work starts, and that’s the price you pay. No surprises after the fact. Under Haven Standard Clause 1, you get a written scope and a written flat price handed to you before the welder lights up. The quote includes the fabricated part, the welding consumables, the labor, and the alignment check on the operator afterward. Every weld job carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the weld or fabricated part fails within a year, we make it right at no additional charge.
DIY or Call Us?

You can safely inspect the failure yourself. Look at the bracket, the hinge, the arm tab. Photograph the crack or the gap and photograph the nameplate. That’s genuinely useful, and it helps us bring the right steel on the first trip.
What you shouldn’t do is try to weld it yourself. If the gate is a swing gate, the spring or the operator arm is under tension, and the gate leaf itself can weigh 400 to 900 pounds. A failed weld under that much stored mechanical energy is not a beginner’s repair. Beyond the immediate injury risk, a bad weld on a mounting bracket will fail again in months, usually at the worst possible moment. We’ve also seen a lot of undercut welds from well-meaning homeowners that crack clean through the plate on the first hot Riverside afternoon when the metal expands. If you want to try, at least wait until you’ve read the machine’s manual and rigged the gate so it can’t move. But the honest answer is this is the kind of job where you call someone who does it daily.

FAQs
A properly fabricated bracket with a gusset at the stress line will outlast the factory part by a wide margin, typically 10 to 15 years here where the climate is dry and rust is less aggressive than coastal air. The weld is not the failure point when it’s done right; the base metal work-hardens over time, and a good fabricator designs around that.
Most cracks under 2 inches in a steel plate can be ground out, welded, and reinforced with a fish plate. If the plate is rust-jacked or the bolt holes are ovaled out, we’ll fabricate a new bracket rather than chasing the old metal. We’ll show you the difference with photos before we start.
Most Linear bracket and hinge repairs are done in 2 to 4 hours on site, including cleanup and re-alignment. If we have to fabricate a bracket from scratch, we’ll cut and drill the plate in the truck, but we’ll still finish most jobs in a single visit.
We keep the common Linear LRA and swing-arm bracket patterns stocked in the truck, plus the hinge leaves and arm tabs that fail most frequently in Riverside. When the factory part isn’t on hand, we fabricate an equivalent, and we’ll tell you which one you’re getting before we start. We also carry parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls operators when a mixed-brand property needs more than one thing fixed.
